Calamity day, Dale Toadvine Retirement and Prayer for Miamisburg

Updated: Dec 3, 2023

At the November 16, 2023 Miamisburg School Board meeting, Dr. Laura Blessing declared a calamity day on April 8th due to Miamisburg's being in the path of a total eclipse of the sun. "There are no hotels that are available within a sixty mile corridor along I-75. The solar eclipse is scheduled to occur at the opportune time of 3:00 PM. We have dismissal from our middle school at that time. There are special glasses that everyone is suppose to wear. Not sure how bus drivers are suppose to navigate in total darkness. With the eclipse and safety concerns, students boarding busses and getting off busses, and the influx of friends and tourists that might be coming to Miamisburg that day to see the eclipse, we do not want to complicate things; and this would be a great opportunity for students to plan ahead. April 9th is the Monday after spring break, so spring break will be extended by a day. We have the official approved glasses that we will be able to share with our students and staff who are on our campus that day."

Seems strange to have a calamity day for the solar eclipse. Use it as a teaching opportunity. How is total darkness har on bus drivers? They drive in darkness every morning during the
